Melynda Lee Mee Yoong
Consultant 

Head – Real Estate

PRACTICE AREAS

Melynda specialises in the Property law and deals mainly with corporate and retail property conveyance. She currently heads the Projects Team and handles a diverse variety of housing developments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Melynda graduated from the University of London in 1994 with a Bachelor Degree in Law (2nd Upper Division). 

In 1995, Melynda obtained her Certificate in Legal Practice and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 1996.

CAREER

Melynda was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 1996. Thereafter she practiced in several firms wherein she honed her talents and decided to specialise in the law of property conveyance.

In December 2012, Melynda joined the Firm as a Partner heading the Real Estate and Property Conveyance Department. In January 2018, Melynda elected to be made a Consultant.

Melynda has also been regularly mentioned in The Legal 500, Asia Pacific, AsiaLaw Review and AsiaLaw Profiles.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

During Melynda’s years in practice, she has gained experiences and exposures from the work she has handled and her forte includes:-

  • handling conveyancing and banking matters inclusive of sale and purchase agreements (both individual and developer client);
  • negotiating, drafting and perfecting tenancy agreements for residential and commercial premises;
  • drafting loan documentation (both retail and corporate) for various financial institutions;
  • dealing with the stamp office and land office;
  • liaising, negotiating and dealing with the Foreign Investment Committee on the sale of properties;
  • drafting and preparation of corporate documents, inter alia; trusts deed, shareholders’ agreements, franchise agreements;

Melynda has dealt with numerous reputable developers and her clients include EUPE Corporation, Gamuda Land, Mah Sing amongst others. Amongst the Projects under her portfolio includes HighPark Residences, Valencia Township, Twenty5 Seven Township, PARC 3 and Jade Hills. With her vast experience in the field of Real Estate she was appointed Lead Lawyer for several projects.

Melynda has steered the department into one of the rising stars of the firm and her department of Construction and Real Estate was listed by Asialaw Profiles 2016 as one of the Highly Recommended Legal Firms in the country.

Melynda has also been listed as a recommended lawyer in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific in the areas of Real Estate and Construction.

CY Chong practises in the field of Litigation. He specialises in family law and probate matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

CY Chong graduated with Bachelor of Laws Degree from University of London in 1990.

CAREER

CY Chong was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in February 1994 and was practising in his own firm till January 2018.

In February 2018, CY Chong joined the Firm as a Consultant and currently heads the Family and Probate Department.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

During CY Chong’s years in practice, he had handled matters relating to Criminal law, Land law, Commercial & Mercantile Law, Construction Law and Family Law. 

CY Chong has dealt with numerous cases involving commercial disputes, family and matrimonial disputes, commercial transactions, corporate advisory (including Liquidation, Joint Venture, Shareholders Dispute, Account Enquires, Corporate Forensic Auditing and Corporate Reliefs and Remedies) and also General Litigation.

Prior to joining the legal profession, CY Chong served the Government of Malaysia in the provision of educational services.

Besides being an active member of the legal fraternity, CY Chong has had a long association with community works offering services and contributions to community bodies, guilds and associations. He is currently the legal advisor to a clansmen association in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.  

CY Chong had also served in the Sports, Charity & Welfare Committees of the Malaysian Bar Council and had participated in the sports and charity events.

Koh Yew Chong
Managing Partner 

Head – Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution & Corporate

PRACTICE AREAS

Yew Chong practises in the area of commercial and corporate litigation, with special emphasis on banking law. In addition, he advises companies on Oil & Gas related matter and also companies on laws relating to industrial relations, corporate litigation (capital reduction and schemes of arrangements) and construction law (primarily with regards to highway concessions and acquisitions). He has also advised motor sports companies on the rules, regulations and ambit of motor sports laws (i.e. FIA International Sporting Codes and FIA International Court of Appeal). 

QUALIFICATIONS

Yew Chong was an ASEAN Scholar and completed his “O” Levels and “A” Levels at Raffles Institution, Singapore and Raffles Junior College, Singapore respectively. 

Thereafter, he completed his tertiary education in the United Kingdom and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from Wales, United Kingdom. He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1995.

Yew Chong obtained his Certificate of Mediation from The Accord Group, Australia in 2009. 

CAREER

Prior to practising law, Yew Chong worked as a legal advisor in one of the nation’s leading financial institutions. 

Yew Chong is also a certified mediator and currently sits on the panel of the Malaysian Mediation Centre.

Since 2008, by appointment of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board, Yew Chong has been chairing and sitting on the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Committee to hear complaints filed against Advocates and Solicitors of Malaysia. 

In 2012, Yew Chong was appointed as a Notary Public by the Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia.

Yew Chong has also been listed by The Legal 500, Asia Pacific as ‘a good advocate, with impressive interpersonal and negotiation skills’, particularly for banking litigation.

PRACTICE AREAS

Irwan specialises in the field of Islamic Dispute Resolution and deals mainly with corporate and banking litigation matters. Irwan leads the Islamic Banking Recovery division and has handled many notable cases.

Irwan's other area of specialisation is in the realms of liquidation and receiverships.

QUALIFICATIONS

Irwan obtained his law degree from International Islamic University Malaysia (LLB (Hons) IIUM) in the year 2000 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in November 2001.

CAREER

Irwan worked in various reputable legal firms in Kuala Lumpur as a legal assistant and thereafter a Senior Associate before setting up his own legal practice under the name of Messrs Irwan & Co in June 2012.

Irwan joined the Firm as a Partner in April 2014 in the Dispute Resolution Department.

Justin Leong Chee C'Jun

Justin practises in the area of commercial and corporate litigation, with special emphasis on banking law. In addition, Justin also assists in Corporate advisory matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

Justin graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London in 2006 and later completed the Certificate of Legal Practice in 2007.

CAREER

Justin read in the chambers of Messrs V Chong W Lam for 5 months and thereafter completed his remaining period with Messrs Azim, Tunku Farik & Wong.

Justin was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of High Court of Malaya in 2008 and then commenced practice with the Banking Litigation Department in Messrs Azim, Tunku Farik & Wong.

In 2009, Justin joined the Litigation Department of Messrs Albar & Partners as an Associate. In recognition of his excellent performance, Justin was promoted as a Senior Associate in 2012.

In 2013, Justin joined the Firm as a Senior Associate and was made a Partner in 2016 in the Litigation Department.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Tan Wai Kit 
Associate

Wai Kit graduated from the Multimedia University with LL.B. (Hons) degree in 2016. Thereafter, he read in the chambers of Messrs. Jal & Lim in Kuala Lumpur and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2017.

Wai Kit then decided to continue expanding his educational horizon and thus pursued his masters. He was subsequently conferred with a LL.M. degree in International Commercial Law by the University of Bristol in 2018.

Wai Kit's area of expertise is in the field of Corporate and Financial Markets and he is currently attached to the Corporate and Real Estate Department.

Stephenie Yuan Huey Theng
Associate

Stephenie graduated from the University of Birmingham with a LL.B. (Hons) Law with Business degree in 2013.

Prior to commencing practice, Stephenie embarked on a role as a paralegal in one of the oldest and distinguished legal firm in Ipoh for a number of years. Having been smitten by legal practice, she then proceeded to pursue and obtain her Certificate in Legal Practice.

Stephenie thereafter read in the chambers of Messrs. Kean Chye & Sivalingam in Ipoh and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 2018.

Stephenie was retained as an Associate in the litigation team and continued her legal practice until the allure of the bright lights and the big city attracted to Kuala Lumpur and she joined Lee & Koh.

Stephenie is currently in the Corporate Department and she focuses mainly on infrastructure and construction documentation. She also assists the Financial Markets Department.

Chong Kar Man
Associate

Kar Man graduated from the University of London with a LL.B. (Hons) Degree in 2016. She then obtained her Certificate in Legal Practice in 2017.

Kar Man read in the chambers of our partner, Justin Leong Chee C'Jun and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 2018.

Kar Man was thereafter retained as an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Department and her forte is in two main areas of dispute resolution namely in the field of corporate banking and infrastructure disputes.

Kar Man has excelled in the department and is now one of the main stalwarts leading the department in the areas of infrastructure and construction disputes.

Muhammad Izzat Bin Zainal
Associate

Izzat was accorded an LL.B (Hons) Degree by the Multimedia University in 2018.

Izzat then proceeded to read in the chambers of our partner, Irwan Ismail. Under the guidance and tutelage of his master, Izzat was captivated and embraced the field of Dispute Resolution.

Upon his admission as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2019, Izzat was retained as an Associate in the Dispute Resolution Department.

Izzat's field of expertise extends to corporate and commercial banking disputes wherein he excels in the realm of Islamic banking dispute and recovery. Together with Irwan, Izzat fronts the Islamic Banking Dispute Resolution Department.

Denise Ng Wai Ling
Associate

Denise graduated from the University of Liverpool with a LL.B. (Hons) degree in 2017. Upon completion of her degree, she elected to return to Malaysia and proceeded to obtain her Certificate in Legal Practice in 2018.

Denise joined Lee & Koh as a Pupil-in-Chambers in 2019 and read in the chambers of our Managing Partner, Koh Yew Chong. In the same year, Denise was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

Denise's love for the complexities of financial transactions and commercial transactions led her to be retained as an Associate in the Real Estate Department.

Denise has now dealt with a myriad of transactions which include cross border transactions, financial transactional documentation, project work as well as the regular property transfer and banking loan documentation.

Nadiah Binti Salman
Associate

Nadiah graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia with a LL.B. (Hons) Degree in 2019.

Nadiah had the opportunity of working on a myriad of complex matters under the guidance and tutelage of the Managing Partner, Koh Yew Chong.Upon completion, Nadiah was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court Malaya in 2020 and was retained as an Associate.

Nadiah mainly deals with infrastructure and construction disputes and governmental and state-related disputes.

Hailing from the International Islamic University, Nadiah also assists in the field of Islamic banking disputes and recovery.
